Deputy Principal's Message

From the Deputy Principal

From the Deputy Principal

In light of the recent government decision to ban social media access for children under 16, our school community is taking this opportunity to reflect on how this change aligns with our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Attitude, and Resilience. Respecting the intent behind this policy means acknowledging the growing concerns around online safety, mental health, and digital wellbeing. It’s a chance for our students to focus on building real-world relationships and developing a healthy sense of self, free from the pressures of online validation.

This shift also calls for a renewed sense of responsibility - from students, staff, and families alike. As educators, we are committed to guiding students in cultivating a positive attitude toward digital boundaries and helping them build the resilience to thrive without constant online engagement. We encourage you as parents to educate yourselves so that you are empowered to have open conversations at home about the reasons behind the ban and the benefits of stepping back from social media. As Proverbs 4:23 reminds us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” This verse speaks to the importance of protecting our inner world, especially in a digital age.

We understand that this change may come with challenges, and we are here to support families every step of the way. We encourage parents to set clear expectations, model healthy tech habits, and stay engaged in their children’s digital lives. Together, we can turn this policy into a powerful opportunity for growth, connection, and character development. If you need resources or support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our wellbeing team. Let’s continue to partner in raising strong, grounded, and compassionate young people.

World Teachers Day

World Teachers Day

On the 31st of October, we celebrated world teachers day. Lunch was provided for our primary and secondary teachers to show our appreciation for all the hard work they put in everyday to help make our school an amazing place for our students.

Your influence goes far beyond the classroom and long after the bell rings. You shape character, inspire purpose, and show Christ’s love in all you do every single day.

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

Year 9A Lead Connect Time with KindyJC

Year 9A Lead Connect Time with KindyJC

On Friday 14 November, our Year 9A students had the wonderful opportunity to lead Connect Time with KindyJC. Together, they guided our youngest learners through a reflective activity, helping them look back on their first year of school and supporting them as they completed their “reflection basketball” task.

It was inspiring to see Year 9A step into leadership roles with patience, kindness, and enthusiasm. Their willingness to serve others and model positive friendships showed the true spirit of our school community. We are proud of the way they supported our Kindy students and helped make this special activity meaningful and memorable.

Year 6 Visit to ADRA

Year 6 Visit to ADRA

On the 13th of November, some of our year 6 students went down to our local ADRA house to volunteer for the afternoon. They helped with the food hampers, gave Christmas gifts from our primary school students and helped run the sausage sizzle. A big thank you to ADRA for letting our kids come and help for the afternoon!

SPECIAL REPORT: Embracing Change & New Beginnings

Change is a natural part of growing up. Whether it's the start of a new school year, moving between year levels, or stepping beyond the school gates for the final time, each transition brings a mix of emotions, presenting both opportunities and challenges. These shifts call on young people to adjust to new routines, navigate unfamiliar environments and develop emotional flexibility. While some may embrace these changes, others may find the disruption unsettling and struggle with the loss of predictability.

Research shows that periods of transition are often linked to heightened anxiety, reduced academic engagement and changes in peer relationships. For families, these periods can also bring added stress. Recognising the emotional and psychological impact of change helps us respond more effectively and supportively.

While change can feel daunting, it also offers valuable opportunities for young people to learn and grow. By normalising uncertainty and encouraging open conversations, we help young people face new beginnings with curiosity rather than fear. When children are surrounded by guidance, encouragement and consistent structure, they're far better equipped to manage life's transitions with confidence and resilience.

New Social Media Regulations: What you need to know

From 10 December 2025, new laws will take effect in Australia to protect young people online by restricting access to social media for those under the age of 16. This important change reflects growing community concern about the impact of early social media use on children's mental health, wellbeing and development.

Research shows that social media can expose children to unrealistic comparisons, online pressure and harmful content long before they are emotionally ready to manage it. While regulation is a positive step forward, real safety begins at home. Families continue to play the most powerful role in helping children build confidence, resilience and awareness in the digital world.

These new regulations provide an opportunity to talk openly with your child about their online experiences and what these changes mean for them. It's also a chance to review family technology habits, reinforce healthy routines, and explore age-appropriate ways for young people to connect, learn and express themselves.

As of 5 November 2025, it is eSafety's age-restricted social media platforms are Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X, YouTube, Kick and Reddit. This list will continue to be updated prior to 10 December. Find the latest details about which platforms are age-restricted .

This Special Report explains what the new laws mean in practice and offers practical guidance to help families prepare for the upcoming changes.
