JESUS CHECKED IN

At Macarthur Adventist College, we paused this week to take time to check in on one another. Recognising that RUOK? Day is more than just a date on the calendar - it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of connection, compassion, and courage. In the business of everyday life, it’s easy to overlook the quiet struggles others may be facing. RUOK? Day encourages us to pause, notice, and ask a simple but life-changing question: “Are you OK?” Whether it’s a friend, classmate, teacher, or family member, checking in can open the door to healing and hope.

A genuine conversation can be a lifeline. You don’t need to be an expert, just a good listener. By showing empathy and being present, we create a culture where people feel safe to share and supported to seek help. RUOK? Day reminds us that mental health is everyone’s responsibility, and that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Jesus himself modelled this beautifully, He noticed the lonely, the hurting, and the outcast, and He met them with love, dignity, and deep connection. From speaking with the Samaritan woman at the well to comforting the sick and broken, Jesus showed us how powerful it is to truly see and care for others.

As we reflect on the importance of checking in with others, we’re reminded of the words in Galatians 6:2 : “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” This verse beautifully captures the heart of RUOK? Day, being there for one another, lifting each other up, and living out love in action. Let’s continue to build a school culture founded in kindness, empathy, and faith, following Jesus’ example of reaching out and walking alongside those in need.

May you feel blessed in the week ahead as we continue to make connecting with others a priority to serve and to love one another just as Jesus did.

Year 10 take chapel

On Wednesday, 10 September, our Year 10 students had the privilege of leading all three chapel services, where they shared their experiences from camp at Narromine.

The day began with the primary school chapel, where our students led with pride and confidence. The energy and enthusiasm of the primary students created a vibrant atmosphere, allowing our Year 10s to reflect fondly on their camp experiences. From hosting and skits to praise and worship and the icebreaker activity, our students demonstrated outstanding leadership. It was inspiring to see how the joy and spirit of camp continued to shine through as they engaged with our younger students.

The secondary chapel services presented a different challenge, as our students sought to share their excitement with peers of a similar age who were less naturally responsive than the primary audience. Despite this, Year 10 rose to the occasion, bringing energy and authenticity that gradually spread throughout the secondary school community.

Overall, the day was a powerful reminder of the pride and joy our students take in their experiences. Through the program and the interviews, they not only shared their journey but also modelled leadership and resilience.

We extend our thanks to Year 10 for their tenacity, enthusiasm, and leadership. You represented yourselves and our school with excellence.

Father's Day

Father's Day

Father's Day

Father’s Day is such an important day to celebrate, as the role that our fathers play is so pivotal in shaping the lives of families, and particularly our students.

Last Friday we organised some activities that allowed our students to play, mingle and just have fun with their dad or father figure in our college quadrangle. There was music, food, games and more importantly – noise. Noise that facilitated connection. We wanted our fathers to come and have fun with our students, their child/ren.

Fathers in the Bible are portrayed as protectors, providers, teachers, and role models of faith. They were called to lead their families with love, wisdom, and integrity, pointing their children to God through both their words and their actions. While none of us are perfect, we are reminded that the presence of a father, or a father figure, can bring stability, encouragement, and a sense of belonging to a child’s life.

Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 22:6 : “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” This verse highlights the powerful influence that fathers and father figures have in shaping the lives of children for the future.

At our college, we deeply value the involvement of fathers and father figures in our school community. The time they invest not only strengthens the bond with their children but also enriches the life of our school. It was a joy to see the smiles, laughter, and togetherness last Friday as families celebrated this special occasion.

We thank all our dads and father figures for the love, guidance and care they continue to show. You are making a difference every day, and we honour you for the incredible role you play in shaping the next generation.

Year 8 English Drama Assessment: Honey Spot by Jack Davis

This week, Year 8 English students presented their drama assessment on Honey Spot by Jack Davis. The class worked with great dedication, creating their own props and memorising their lines to bring the play to life on stage. Their commitment to teamwork shone through as they supported one another, ensuring that every performance captured the energy and emotion of the story. Each student stepped confidently into character, demonstrating both creativity and collaboration.

About the Play

Honey Spot is an engaging Australian play by Jack Davis that explores themes of friendship, cultural understanding, and the breaking down of prejudice. The story centres on the unlikely bond between Peggy, a non-Indigenous girl, and Tim, a Nyoongar boy, as they form a friendship despite the cultural tensions that surround them. Through humour, honesty, and heartfelt moments, the play encourages audiences to reflect on racism, stereotypes, and the importance of respect across different cultures.

A Memorable Effort

Our students truly brought these characters to life, showing maturity in their interpretations and creativity in their staging. Their performances reflected not only strong acting skills but also a deep understanding of the play’s message. The teamwork, effort, and passion they displayed made this assessment a highlight of the term.

The Year 8 students were simply amazing, and their hard work deserves to be celebrated. Photos of their outstanding performances will be shared alongside this article.
