Celebrating Book Fair!
This week, our school has been buzzing with excitement as students explored our annual Book Fair in the library. From picture books to chapter books, along with a variety of fun stationery items, the fair has been a highlight for many. It has been wonderful to see students carefully choosing books that spark their imagination and love for reading.
Reading at home every day plays a key role in supporting academic excellence for primary and secondary students. Here are 10 ways it helps:
Improves vocabulary: Daily reading for just 20 minutes a day exposes a child to over 1.8 million words a year!
Strengthens comprehension: Understanding texts helps students grasp concepts in science, history, and even math word problems.
Enhances focus and concentration: Regular reading builds attention span, improving overall learning ability.
Develops critical thinking: Analysing stories or information encourages reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Boosts writing skills: Exposure to different writing styles helps students express ideas more clearly in essays and reports.
Encourages curiosity and knowledge: Reading widely fosters a love of learning across all subject areas.
Supports memory and retention: Remembering story details or information strengthens memory, aiding study and exam performance.
Improves academic confidence: Regular reading builds literacy competence, which positively impacts performance in other subjects.
Promotes independent learning: Students learn to explore topics on their own, preparing them for research and project work.
Reduces stress and builds positive habits: A daily reading routine supports mental well-being, helping students stay engaged and ready to learn.
As we celebrate the joy of books and the gift of learning, we are reminded of the wisdom in God’s Word: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Each story a child reads, every new idea they discover, and the curiosity they bring to learning are all part of shaping their hearts and minds for the future.
Together as a school community, we have the privilege of nurturing not only a love of reading but also the values and wisdom that will guide our children throughout their lives. May this encourage us—parents, teachers, and students alike—to keep growing in knowledge while seeking the lasting wisdom that comes from God.

Secondary Sport
Basketball Gala Day
Basketball Gala Day
Our students proudly represented the College at the south Met Basketball Gala Day. The event was a fantastic opportunity for our teams to showcase their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while competing against schools from across the region. The boys had spent 10 weeks preparing for the event which included holiday trainings as well.
The day was filled with exciting games, close contests, and plenty of encouragement. It was wonderful to see students supporting each other, demonstrating resilience, and putting into practice our core values at MAC.
Beyond the results, the highlight of the day was the way our Year 12 students carried themselves for their final gala day in secondary school. Their positive attitude reflected the values of our school community, and they should be commended for their effort and commitment.
A big thank you goes to Ms Manoe and Mr Maua who supervised and the teams in trainings and on the day while our experienced coach Hala Vanoa coached the team. Thank you to the parents who gave their children’s time for training and support. The experience was invaluable in helping our students grow not only as athletes but also as young people learning the importance of teamwork, respect, and perseverance.
We look forward to building on this experience and continuing to develop our students’ love for basketball and sport.

Last week, our talented Year 10 Food Technology students brought the heat as they launched their very own pop-up restaurants. Working in groups, students designed, planned, and ran unique restaurant experiences complete with themed décor, three-course menus, and a very special guest list: their teachers.
The event was a resounding success, with students stepping into real-world hospitality roles and gaining hands-on insight into the food industry. From maître d’s to chefs and waitstaff, each student played a vital part in bringing their vision to life. The feedback from staff was glowing, praising both the delicious meals and the professional service. A huge congratulations to our budding food entrepreneurs, you’ve certainly set the bar high!

We are thrilled to share that our year 7 students had the incredible opportunity to attend an open orchestra rehearsal at the iconic Sydney Opera House! This remarkable venue provided a unique backdrop for an inspiring musical experience.
Under the direction of the talented conductor Stephen Layton, the orchestra performed works by renowned composers Bach, Mozart, and Handel in the stunning concert hall. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in the world of classical music and witness the artistry of professional musicians in action.
We look forward to sharing more enriching experiences with our students in the future!
