Secondary is an EXCITING SPACE!
As we move through the first weeks of the school year, it has been a joy to see our Year 7 students settling so confidently into high school life. Beginning the year with school camp provided a wonderful foundation for friendships, resilience, and shared experiences. I thoroughly enjoyed watching our students step outside their comfort zones, trying new activities, and supporting one another has helped our newest students form strong connections that are already evident in the classroom and around the grounds. There is a growing sense that they are not just attending high school - they truly belong at MAC.
A key part of building that belonging has been the warm welcome from our Student Leadership Team, who greet students at the gates each Friday morning. Their presence sets a positive tone for the day and reinforces our culture of encouragement and service. So, make sure you say hello and give a high 5! Friday lunchtimes have also quickly become a highlight, with House Cup competitions bringing colour, energy, and friendly rivalry to the oval and courts. These moments of shared celebration strengthen community spirit and give every student an opportunity to participate, connect, and contribute to their House. Go Gandangara!!!
Supporting the needs of our students is our dedicated wellbeing team. Through structured initiatives and informal check-ins, our Wellbeing Coordinator, chaplains, and psychologists are working closely with students to nurture confidence, emotional resilience, and healthy relationships. Their initiatives focus on equipping students with practical tools to manage change, build positive friendships, and seek support when needed. When students feel seen, heard, and valued, they are far more able to flourish academically and socially.
This week’s biblical reflection has centred on the idea that comparison can steal our joy. In a world where it is easy to measure ourselves against others, we are reminded of Galatians 6:4–5, which encourages each person to “test their own actions” rather than comparing themselves with someone else. Each of our students has unique gifts and strengths, and our community is richer because of that diversity. By focusing on gratitude, growth, and God’s purpose for each individual, we cultivate a culture where joy is protected, belonging is strengthened, and every student is encouraged to become the person they are created to be.

It's no secret that the end of school can be a huge source of anxiety for both students and parents alike. Studies have shown that over 40% of final year students suffer from high-level anxiety or stress, with some even suffering from depression.
It is important to prepare a student's brain for success. Studies show there is a clear link between students taking care of their health, and their overall productivity during the final year of school. Understanding how best to support your child's health and wellbeing during this time will help them perform at their best. The student brain has a lot going on, so understanding how it works will help them get the most out their brain power. Acknowledge that not all stress is bad. The art is in finding the right balance. Having the right amount of stress can encourage students to be at their optimal level of alertness, and improve behavioural and cognitive performance. It helps tune their brain and focus.
In this Special Report, parents and care givers will be presented with a number of strategies on how best to support their child during the final year at school.
